Energy from election victory shifts to fiscal cliff debate
Celebration over President Obama’s reelection quickly
shifted into a new round of mobilization over political negotiations
to resolve the so-called “fiscal cliff ” as supporters of the president made clear their vote was a mandate to focus on creating jobs for working people, not maintaining tax cuts for the rich. At press time working family advocates were strongly rejecting proposals that would extend the Bush tax cuts for the richest 2 percent and see cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. The basis of a sound fiscal policy is getting the economy back on track. More
