IUE-CWA Sustainable Energy Solutions

What does the word Sustainable mean? Merriam Webster defines Sustainable as a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged.

The U.S. EPA defines Sustainable manufacturing as the creation of manufactured products through economically-sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources.

IUE-CWA Sustainable Energy Solutions focuses on three tenants of sustainability: Economics, Environment, and People. By teaching sustainable energy practices to management and frontline workers, we can deliver increased profitability to businesses, which translates into better job security for IUE-CWA Members, while also reducing pollution in the environment.

SES Graph

Sustainable energy practices in manufacturing make good business sense. The IUE-CWA program’s average identified savings is $123,246 per Energy Audit event. That goes straight to the bottom line! The chart on the left shows the number of increased sales required to add the equivalent amount of profit. Any company which does not have our Energy Audit team come into their facility is leaving money on the table!

In addition to cost-savings are the environmental benefit of removing on average 1,228 Metric tons of Co2 production.

IUE-CWA Sustainable Energy Solutions helps locations achieve these goals by conducting a three-day onsite workshop and energy auditing event with a team comprised of IUE-CWA staff and members and management from the location.

Day 1

We will train the team in:

  1. The importance of energy sustainability in business and how it relates to Economics, Environment and People.
  2. Use of an energy calculator which is an Excel based program. (We use classroom simulations to build familiarity with this software.)
  3. Where to find energy sustainability opportunities and how to develop them into profitable solutions.
  4. The remainder of the first day is dedicated to finding and developing energy sustainability projects.

Day 2

The second day is spent continuing to find and develop projects.

Day 3

The third day is spent finishing project development. Also, the team builds a final report covering the top four to six projects and then presents it to upper management (this presentation is 30-40 minutes long). We leave them with a copy of the savings calculator program and a list of the savings projects.

After the Event

In the weeks following the IUE-CWA Energy Solutions event, we perform an in-depth review of the projects and complete a detailed report of our findings which we will send to them.

The IUE-CWA Sustainable Energy Solutions Team

IUE-CWA Energy Solutions team members are Association of Energy Engineers Certified. They continue to participate in training and education in sustainable practices to deliver the best possible service to our members.

Program Capabilities

We have the Capability to perform data logging in advance or during the onsite event. Data logging allows us to retrieve real-time numbers and track actual energy consumption patterns, which greatly enhances our ability to identify and accurately assess projects. We can tailor the Onsite Event to best serve the location.
